New Years Eve Police Operations – Darwin Region

Police

Police will be out in force on New Years Eve to ensure everyone starts the New Year on a positive note and enjoys a great night out.

Superintendent, Jamie Chalker said a police operation across the Darwin region will be targeting anyone who threatens to ruin the enjoyment of others, focussing on antisocial behaviour, violence and drink drivers.

"There will be an increased police presence in the Darwin nightclub precinct to deal with the increased number of revellers and the issues associated with the extended trading hours that unfortunately, we can predict," he said.

"The majority of patrons of Darwin pubs and clubs are well behaved and just want a good night out with mates.

"Unfortunately there remain too many revellers who don't know or disregard their alcohol tolerance and those who fail to make safe arrangements to get home and selfishly get behind the wheel of a car.

"Our message is simple. We are there to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable night. All we ask is that everyone looks after one another, drinks sensibly and makes plans to get home safely.

"There will be a lot of people in town and a lot of people trying to leave at the same time. But with some forward thinking, options are available such as staying in a hotel, arranging a sober bob driver, the free Starlight Express bus, the Darwin Bus Service, taxis or mini busses.

"Start the New Year on a positive, not in a cell, in hospital or worse," Superintendent Chalker said.
