Missing males found - Pirlangimpi

Police

Police have located two males aged 49 and 17 after they were reported missing near Pirlangimpi at 10:00 pm last night.

It is believed the two went fishing in a small 'tinnie' yesterday and police were notified by concerned community members after they had not returned by the evening.

Initial searching at first light this morning by local Marine Rangers located the fishing vessel tied to a tree in a waterway. Soon after a coordinated search and rescue effort was mounted by the Territory Response Section, using local police, Marine Rangers and local community members in the search.

A helicopter was also used to search for the males, and soon after taking to the air, the spotters noticed smoke nearby, subsequently locating the two males.

Territory Duty Superintendent Mike Murphy thanked everyone for their efforts.

"It is due to the quick reporting on behalf of the family, as well as the great work by community members and responding police, as well as the ingenuity of the 17-year-old to light a fire to attract attention, that the two were found safe and well so quickly. A good result for all." he said.
