Missing boat -Darwin

Police

Police are investigating an incident in which a man fell from his boat in Darwin Harbour yesterday.

Police received a call just before 5pm last night from the crew of another vessel reporting that a dinghy, with no-one aboard, almost hit their boat. The dinghy was described as a 4.5metre aluminium Stacer runabout with a 60hp Evinrude motor. The vessel was heading north-east out of the harbour when last seen.

A short time later police received a call from staff at the naval base in Larrakeyah who reported they had located a man at the rock wall. The 33-year-old man said he had been thrown from the boat and swum 500 metres to shore. He was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital where he was examined and released.

At 11.30 this morning the boat was located on a reef north-west of the Vernon Islands.
