Media Release - Assault Palmerston Bus Exchange

Police are investigating the assault of a 35-year-old female that occurred at the Palmerston bus exchange on Tuesday.

It is alleged at about 2:40 pm the victim was involved in an argument with a 29-year-old man after consuming alcohol together in bush land near by.

The man became aggressive and punched the victim to her right eye causing her to fall to the ground before fleeing the scene on a bus to Casuarina.

Bystanders provided the woman with first aid until Saint John Ambulance and police arrived on the scene.

The victim sustained irreparable damage to her eye and is currently in the High Dependency Unit at RDH in a stable condition.

Palmerston Police apprehended the offender yesterday at Palmerston bus exchange. He has been charged in relation to aggravated assault and unlawfully cause serious harm offences.

He is due to appear in Darwin Magistrate's Court today.
