A 17-year-old Gray male has been charged in relation to the theft of a silver 2005 Holden Statesman Grange, valued at approximately $50 000 that was stolen from a residence in Cullen Bay Crescent, Larrakeyah early yesterday morning.

At about 5.00 am a premise was unlawfully entered via an unlocked door and the vehicle was stolen along with a laptop computer, camera, and three mobile phones. The stolen vehicle was spotted by police around 5.45 am in Palmerston which resulted in a short pursuit before the vehicle was abandoned at the intersection of Catalina Road and Elrundie Avenue.

The male left the area on foot but was apprehended by police.

It is also alleged this male unlawfully entered another residence in the same street last month again via an unlocked sliding door and stole a laptop computer, LCD TV, digital camera, two watches, a small quantity of cash and a red 2007 Ford Territory valued at approximately $25 000. This vehicle was recovered by police on 12 November.

The male has been charged with:

Aggravated unlawful use (x2)
Learner driver - no person in front seat
Fail to obey direction of a police officer

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court today.

"Police again remind the public to ensure they secure their premises to avoid this type of opportunistic crime occurring, "said Senior Sergeant Rob Jordan.
