Liquor seizure - Katherine

Police

Katherine Police have arrested a 27-year-old male in relation to a quantity of alcohol located in a shop in the town.

After receiving information from concerned members of the public alleging that liquor was being sold illegally, members of the Katherine Police Station Tactical Response Unit attended a clothing store in the Oasis Shopping Complex.

Upon searching the premises members located 27 cooler bags containing 27 x four litre casks of wine.

A 27-year-old male was conveyed to the Katherine Watch House and has since been charged with two counts of Sell Liquor without Licence.

He was bailed to appear in the Katherine Magistrate's Court in the New Year.

Katherine Police Superintendent Colin Smith said this was a great result with Police working in partnership with the Community to reduce alcohol related anti social behaviour in Katherine.

"The alcohol was being sold well outside the restricted trading hours that apply to Katherine Liquor outlets.

"I am hoping this sends a clear message to everyone that the Katherine Community will not stand for this sort of behaviour and that police will act immediately on any information provided relating to the unlawful supply of alcohol in Katherine or elsewhere" he said.
