Liquor seized - prescribed area Jabiru

Police

Police pulled over the Ford Falcon sedan for a random check at 3 pm and a search of the vehicle located a large quantity of alcohol.
This included 170 Cans of Victoria Bitter beer, 7 x 700ml bottles of Jim Beam bourbon, 4 x 700 ml bottles of Bundaberg Rum and 2 x 700ml bottles of Johnny Walker Scotch.
Superintendent Helen Braam, who heads up the Northern Operational Service Division, said the seizure was just the latest in several seizures made this year.
"Concerted efforts by Police to crack down on grog runners into Arnhem Land, has netted over 35 cartons of full strength beer, 28 bottles of spirits and three casks of wine just in the last 14 days" Supt Braam said.
"All the seizures were made on the Arnhem Highway or Oenpelli Road but we believe this is only the tip of the iceberg of the grog that is getting through.
"Too much grog, causes violence and death, the Arnhem communities know this - it disappoints me that especially the women in these communities don't stand up and tell the Police these grog runners are coming" Supt Braam said.
"If the men don't care about protecting their families from trouble, then the women should be strong and protect themselves and their children by talking to the police about these grog runners.
"To the grog runners I say - is it really worth losing your car, getting a criminal record, and maybe going to jail - just because you want to get drunk? Think about all the other things you could have spent that money on - now you've lost your money and your grog". Media Contact: Natalie Bell 89223185
