Alice Springs Police are investigating an indecent assault of a female in Alice Springs yesterday.

Police received a report of an indecent assault in a laneway on Van Senden Avenue just after 4pm yesterday.

The victim told police she was walking down Van Senden Avenue shortly after 4pm when a man who was walking toward her asked her for a cigarette.

The woman said no and the man attempted the grab the woman, who blocked his attempt and continued walking.

The woman turned down a laneway off Van Senden and continued walking when the same male approached her from behind and grabbed her arm and assaulted her.

The victim managed to break free and ran away from the offender and shortly after contacted police.

The man is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, aged around 25-years-old, 170-180cm tall with a slim build.

The offender is believed to be wearing a black Adidas t-shirt with yellow panelling under the arms, knee length black shorts, a black baseball cap and red long socks pushed down.

Police encourage anyone who may have seen the offender to contact them on 131 44 or Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 and quote the following reference number, PROMIS number 4313426.

A comfit is expected to be released later today
