A 39-year-old man has been charged following a crash between a Toyota Troop Carrier and a scooter in Mitchell street just before 12pm yesterday.

The driver of the Troop Carrier allegedly turned into the path of an on-coming scooter as it was driving towards Parliament House on Mitchell Street, and a dispute occurred between the male drivers.

The men continued their dispute for approximately 30 metres before the Troop Carrier allegedly nudged the scooter into oncoming traffic.

The Troop Carrier then allegedly drove over the scooter and the 42-year-old male rider before leaving the scene in the direction of Parliament House.

A red Toyota Corolla travelling outbound was forced to stop as a result of the incident and received some front end damage after colliding with the scooter.

Police, Ambulance and Fire crews attended and the male rider was conveyed to the Royal Darwin Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

Police actively tracked down the Troop Carrier on Dripstone Road and arrested the driver within 30 minutes of the crash.

He has been charged with numerous offences including:

Aggravated assault
Driving a motor vehicle causing serious harm
Driving without due car
Hit and run causing serious harm
Failing to stop after a crash
Recklessly endangering/serious harm.

He has been bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on April 21.
