Four-car collision – Alice Springs

Police

Four cars were damaged after the driver of a Mitsubishi Magna allegedly suffered a seizure behind the wheel in the Alice Springs CBD on Sunday.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the incident in Gregory Terrace about 11am. Police said it appeared the driver was traveling east on Gregory Terrace when he crashed into the rear of a parked Ford Falcon. The impact caused the Ford to cannon into a Suzuki Sierra which in turn crashed into the rear of a Toyota.

The Magna then mounted the opposite kerb before skidding across a roundabout and into a Telstra bollard. The impact caused extensive damage to the Telstra equipment causing phone, internet and EFTPOS outages in some parts of the CBD. The damage is not expected to be repaired until mid-week.

The driver and a pedestrian who was standing nearby when the vehicle crashed were taken to hospital as a precaution but it appears no-one was seriously injured in the incident.

The driver will be summonsed for driving without a licence.
