Five new boats for remote communities

Five Task Force Themis Stations are each set to receive new Aqualine 550 boat before the end of the year.

Les Martin, Logistics Coordinator for Task Force Themis said that the boats will be a very useful resource for Police at the remote stations.

"Ramingining, Gapuwiyak, Numbulwar, Warruwi and Minjilang will each receive one of the new boats.

"The boats will be used for regular costal patrols to enforce the fisheries act and, to perform search and rescues. They will also be used to facilitate everyday operations such as transporting members from Ramingining to the overnight facility on Milingimbi" said Mr Martin.

Mr Martin said that all members deployed to remote locations will receive a two day intensive boat handling course.

"The course will ensure that members are proficient in operation, handling and maintenance of the boat," said Mr Martin.

The boats have been provided to assist with policing operations under the commonwealth funded Task Force Themis, The Northern Territory Police response to the Federal Intervention.
