Alice Springs Police are continuing their investigation into two fires that occurred at motels in Alice Springs in the early hours of New Year's Day.
The first report was of a fire in the laundry at the Mt Nancy Motel on the North Stuart Highway just after 3.00 am. The fire was found to have started in a locked laundry room which had been broken into. The fire was extinguished a short time later but caused extensive damage to the area.
Just after 4.00 am police and fire crews were called to the Airport Motel in Gap Road following a report of a fire in the laundry at that location. The fire was extinguished a short time later however both are being treated as suspicious.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area of either motels between 3.00 am and 4.00 am to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
