A 40-year-old Howard Springs man will be summonsed to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court at a later date in relation to a domestic incident that occurred last night.

It is alleged the man had gone to the gun safe located in the residence, obtained a rifle, loaded it and threatened the woman who immediately left the premises and contacted police.

Police attended the scene and cordoned off the area and police negotiators contacted the man who surrendered himself without any further incident.

The man will be summonsed for possessing firearm whilst intoxicated and insecure firearm.
