A 40-year-old Howard Springs man has been arrested by police following a domestic incident that occurred last night.

At about 8.50 pm police received a report of a domestic disturbance at a Howard Springs address. It was ascertained that an argument had broken out between the man and a 40-year-old female resident.

It is alleged the man had gone to the gun safe located in the residence, obtained a rifle, loaded it and threatened the woman who immediately left the premises and contacted police.

Police attended the scene and cordoned off the area and police negotiators contacted the man who surrendered himself without any further incident.

The man is currently in police custody and will be interviewed later today in relation to the incident.
