A 30-year-old woman has been charged in relation to a fatality that occurred in October this year.

A 24-year-old man died in the single vehicle rollover that happened in the early hours of Wednesday 7 October on Melville Bay Road near Wallaby Beach at Nhulunbuy.

The 30-year-old woman who was also in the vehicle at the time was treated at the scene by St John Ambulance before being conveyed to Gove District Hospital and later flown to Royal Darwin Hospital for further treatment.

It is believed the couple were travelling in a Toyota Landcruiser utility outbound on Melville Bay Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle approximately 100 metres west of the Yirrkala Business Enterprise, and rolled resulting in both occupants being thrown clear of the vehicle.

The woman has been charged with:

Fail to wear seatbelt
Drive high range blood alcohol content (0.037%)
Drive motor vehicle cause death

She was bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court on 18 January next year.
