Mataranka and Katherine Police have been called to a fatal vehicle crash 50 kilometres south of Mataranka.

At about 5:45 this afternoon police were alerted to a single vehicle accident on the Stuart Highway. It appears the vehicle left the highway and collided with a tree leaving the passenger trapped inside the vehicle.

Mataranka Emergency Services and clinic staff and Katherine Saint John Ambulance and Fire Service attended the scene. The male passenger died as a result of the crash while receiving medical treatment.
