Police are investigating the death of a female that was struck by a train South of Alice Springs last night.

It is alleged that the victim, believed to be a 31-year-old, was laying across the train tracks when she was struck by the North bound freight train, approximately 200 metres South of Karnte Road at approximately 10:30 pm.

Police have established a crime scene at the location as investigations continue.
