Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident Alice Springs update

Just after 4:00 today NT Police, Fire Service and St John Ambulance attended a serious two vehicle crash 30 kilometres north of Alice Springs near the Tropic of Capricorn.

The Stuart Highway has been closed and the investigation is continuing.

Police can confirm that a man has died as a result of the crash.

It is believed that the deceased driving a Holden Astra was turning south out of the truck stop when it collided with a Toyota Hilux travelling north on the Stuart Highway.

The male passenger of the Holden Astra and the male and female occupants of the Toyota Hilux have been conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital by St John Ambulance.

A detour has been established around the crash site and it is requested that caution is exercised and speed lowered in this area to allow for the changed conditions.

The death brings the road toll to eight compared to 15 at the same time last year.
