Police received a report just after midnight after a passing motorist found a pedestrian lying on the Roper Highway approximately eight kilometres from the Stuart Highway turn-off.

The man died after being struck by a vehicle travelling east along the Roper Highway. Crash investigators and members from the Katherine Investigations Unit went to the scene to conduct an investigation into the cause of the accident. Police are interviewing a woman believed to have been the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident.

The death brings the Territory road toll to seven compared to 15 for the same period last year.
