A 21-year-old male has been charged in relation to a drink driving incident that occurred last night.
At approximately 10:00 pm members were alerted to a vehicle crash that had occurred on Lakes Crescent in Marrara.
It appears that the driver, a 21-year-old male, was driving his red Ford Falcon XR8 at speed along Lakes Crescent when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a letterbox.
The driver fled the scene after the vehicle became lodged on the debris.
Members soon located the offender at a near-by residence and conveyed him to the Darwin Watch House where he returned a blood alcohol content reading of 0.112 percent.
He has been charged with drive medium range blood alcohol content, drive without due care and not stop after an accident and bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court at a later date.
Territory Duty Superintendent Jamie Chalker said this man was very lucky to have escaped injury.
"We can only be thankful that on this occasion, death was not the outcome of this young man's poor decision to drink and drive.
"The message needs to be reinforced to all road users that care needs to be taken on our roads at all times and that excessive speed combined with drink driving is a dangerous, if not lethal, combination.
"Police urge all members of the public to remain vigilant and if they witness any suspected drink driving, to contact them on 131 444" he said.
