Drugs seized – Darwin City

Police

Police have arrested two people in relation to two separate drug related incidents on Sunday.

It is alleged that at approximately 2:30 am on Sunday, information was received that a 24-year-old male was attempting to sell a quantity of MDMA within a licensed premises in Darwin City.

Darwin Police attended the location, apprehended the male and seized the 50 ecstasy tablets and sum of money that were in his possession.

A search warrant was later conducted on his place of residence, locating a further 567 tablets. He was charged with the following offences:

Possess dangerous drug in a public place
Supply a schedule 2 substance
Possess schedule 2 substance in a commercial quantity.

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court today.

The estimated street value of the 617 tablets (160.5 grams) of MDMA would have been approximately $21,595.

Later that day, Substance Abuse Intelligent Desk (SAID) members from Katherine attended the Groote Eylandt Airport and conducted searches on passengers arriving on a flight from Darwin.

The attending Drug Detector Dog provided a positive response to a stuffed animal and upon closer inspection; members located a total of 134.6 grams of Cannabis inside.

The 26-year-old female owner was charged with:

Possess trafficable quantity of cannabis
Supply cannabis

She was bailed to appear in the Alyangula Court on 18 August.
