Drugs seized– Alice Springs

A 34-year-old woman was arrested and her car seized after she was found with cannabis and grog in her vehicle.

Police pulled over the driver of a Mitsubishi Pajero near the Tanami turnoff north of Alice Springs on Friday night.

After searching the vehicle police seized 14 deal bags of Cannabis and two 700ml bottle of Jim Beam. The vehicle was also seized.

Superintendent Lance Godwin said the seizure was the result of excellence work by Yuendumu Police and members of the Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk (SAID), the Dog Operations Unit and the Drug Intelligence Unit.

"This seizure is a result of a jointly-funded initiative between FAHCSIA (Federal government) and the Northern Territory Police who are committed to reducing the harmful effects of drugs upon our remote Australian communities," Supt Godwin said.

"In this case, police received information the vehicle was likely to be carrying drugs and grog into the community. The fact we receive such information is the result of the intelligence networks established by the SAID and the other units dedicated to stopping grog and drugs getting into remote communities."

The woman has been charged with possessing and supplying Cannabis. She has been bailed to appear in the Yuendumu Magistrates Court on December 15.
