Two men will appear in court today after police seized almost $158,000 worth of Cannabis at the weekend.
Police from the Imampa community were conducting a RBT station on the Lasseter Highway near the Erldunda Roadhouse when they pulled over a Ford Fairmont sedan around 9.30pm on Saturday. A search of the vehicle uncovered four large bags of Cannabis weighing 1.816 kg in a bag in the boot of the car. The three male occupants of the vehicle were arrested and the car was impounded and brought to Alice Springs.
Further examination by members of the Drugs Intelligence Unit and the drug detector dogs found an additional three large bags secreted behind a panel in the boot. The bags contained a further 1.362 kg of Cannabis bringing the total seized to 3.178 kilograms. Police estimate the Cannabis to have a street value of approximately $158,000.
Two men aged 46 and 49 have been charged with supplying and possessing a commercial quantity of Cannabis and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today. The third man was released without charge.
