Police have apprehended four people in relation to a drug and alcohol seizure that occurred in Alyangula yesterday afternoon.

Members attended a residence on Carpenteria Circuit and conducted a search, locating numerous people inside as well as fireworks, liquor, a small amount of cannabis and approximately $10 400 worth of cash.

Three females aged 26, 23 and 21 and a 19-year-old male have been summonsed to face Alyangula Court for numerous charges, including:

Possess dangerous drug
Possess liquor in a restricted area
Possess tainted property
Possession of the fireworks

All four are to appear in court at a later date.

Senior Sergeant Lee Morgan said this was a great result.

"The sale and use of cannabis in the Groote Eylandt area is a serious issue. Hopefully this result will send a message to people involved in the distribution of cannabis on Groote Eylandt that if you are involved in dangerous drugs you will be caught.

"The long term effects of cannabis use can be devastating to individuals, families and communities. It is really important that people within the community take a strong stance against the use of all illegal drugs and continue to provide police with timely information" said Senior Sergeant Morgan.
