Drivers reminded to slow down in the wet

Police

Heavy rains and strong winds overnight have caused a large number of fallen trees and power outages across Darwin and the rural area.

Duty Superintendent Bruce Porter said that Police are reminding the public to stay away from damaged power lines and power poles and not to try remove trees which may have fallen on power lines.

"Police and Emergency Services are working with the Power and Water Authority and the council to remove trees which may have fallen over night. If a power line is down in your area you can report it to the PAWA emergency service line on 1800 245 090."

Police are also reminding motorists to take care on the road over the weekend.

Supt Porter asked drivers to slow down when driving in heavy rain and to drive with headlights on.

"It's important to drive to the conditions and to be vigilant about water which has built up on the roads"

"Currently there is localised flooding along Bagot road so we are reminding motorists to slow down and be on the look out for any flooding which may have occurred in other areas" said Supt Porter.
