Drink drivers – Alice Springs

Police

Two men will face court after they were caught drink -driving on the Stuart Highway at the weekend.

Police received a report from a member of the public around 7pm on Saturday that a drink driver appeared to be towing a car on the Stuart Highway about 230 kilometres south of Alice Springs.

A police patrol attended and found a Ford Falcon station wagon being towed by a Ford Falcon sedan. The 46-year-old driver of the sedan was found to have a blood alcohol level of .098 per cent while the 34-year-old driver of the vehicle being towed had a reading of .088 per cent.

Both vehicles were carrying a total of four children, four women and one male passenger as well as the drivers.

Police said it appears one of the cars ran out of fuel soon after leaving Kulgera Roadhouse, so the driver of the sedan began towing the other vehicle.

Both men were arrested and have been bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court next month.

Both have been charged with low-range drink driving and the 34-year-old has also been charged with driving disqualified and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
