Double fatality –Update #1 - Coolalinga

Police from the Major Crime Unit in conjunction with Crash Investigators from the Northern Traffic Operations are investigating a double fatality which occurred at Coolalinga last night.

Police received a report just after 7pm that a road train had collided with a Holden sedan at the intersection of the Stuart Highway and Hemming Road, Coolalinga.

The 20-year-old female driver of the Holden Statesman died at the scene and a 47-year-old man who was trying to direct traffic around the scene was killed when he was hit by a Holden Commodore a short time later.

The Stuart Highway remains closed while Crash Investigators, forensic crews and members of the Major Crime Unit examine the scene.

Police said the road train, which was travelling inbound on the Stuart Highway, was towing three trailers full of cattle when it crashed into the Holden Statesman which was making a right hand turn onto the Stuart Highway from Hemming Road.

Police are aware that there were a number of people in the shops surrounding the crash scene and are urging anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
