Two people have died after a road train collided with a Holden Commodore on the Stuart Highway at Coolalinga this evening.
One female occupant of the Commodore died at the scene while a man died when he was hit by a car as he tried to direct traffic around the scene. Witnesses told police the man was hit by a green Holden Commodore. The 47-year-old man died at the scene.
Police fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene near the Coolalinga shopping centre just after 7pm. Police received a report that a road train with two trailers full of cattle had crashed into a sedan killing a woman in the Commodore. By the time rescue crews arrived a man had also been killed as he tried to divert traffic around the scene of the first crash.
The deaths bring the Territory road toll to 12 compared to 29 for the same period last year.
