Domestic Violence arrest – Alice Springs

Police

A 41-year-old man has been arrested following an assault in Alice Springs yesterday.

Police arrested the man after the 37-year-old female victim went to hospital suffering a broken arm and head lacerations. Police said the woman was already being treated in hospital for a broken arm which the offender had allegedly caused on March 17. On Monday she left the hospital to go drinking with him, but returned the next morning having sustained another break to the injured arm after he allegedly assaulted her again. She also sustained severe lacerations and bruising to the head.

Police allege the victim was also assaulted on March 23, 2009, and November 24, 2008 by the same offender. In November he allegedly assaulted the woman with a stick and broke both her arms.

Then on March 23 it is alleged he assaulted her by smashing a bottle over her head and striking her with a rock numerous times.

Police arrested the man at the hospital yesterday and he has been charged with numerous offences including three counts of serious harm, four counts of aggravated assault, three counts of being armed with an offence weapon, and one count of making threats to cause injury. He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Spring Magistrates Court today. An emergency Domestic Violence Order was also taken out by members of the Domestic Violence Protection Unit on her behalf.
