A 37-year-old man will appear in court today after allegedly assaulting his wife in Palmerston on Monday.

Police arrested the man after a complaint from his 31-year-old wife that he had held her against her will at their Palmerston home. She told police he had also tried to strangle her and sexually assaulted her.

Police arrested the man on Monday afternoon.

He has been charged with numerous offences including:

Sexual assault without consent,
Aggravated assault,
Deprivation of liberty
Failing to properly store firearms.

He will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today.
