Tennant Creek police seized more than 40 weapons following a disturbance involved around 100 people in Tennant Creek overnight.
Police received a report just before 8pm that a large group of people were gathering outside a residence in Ford Crescent. During the ensuing disturbance, a 63-year-old woman was injured after she was hit on the head with a nulla nulla. As the disturbance escalated a police vehicle was hit with rocks, boomerangs and nulla nullas.
Police eventually dispersed the crowd and the victim was taken by ambulance to the Tennant Creek Hospital. She was later airlifted to Alice Springs Hospital with suspected head and spinal injuries. A 32-year-old man was arrested for the assault. He is expected to be charged later today.
Meanwhile police seized 20 nulla nullas, six boomerangs, six metal bars, three axes, one Samurai sword, three knives and two hammers.
Superintendent Bruce Porter said the fight was part of an on-going feud between opposing families from Epenarra and McLaren Creek.
"This dispute is a long-running feud between these two families which last night erupted into a large disturbance," Supt Porter said.
"It is very disappointing that we are still having to respond to on-going disputes between these two families, especially considering the amount of work Police have put in to trying to mediate a peaceful resolution. Nonetheless, Police will again meet with the Council of Elders to try and facilitate a conciliation meeting to address the on-going issues between these two groups."
