Disturbance – the Narrows - 4284719

Police are investigating a disturbance that occurred in the Narrows last night resulting in a 31-year-old male being conveyed to hospital.

Members were called at approximately 6:50 pm to reports of a large disturbance at a block of flats on the Stuart Highway in the Narrows.

It is alleged that upon arrival they witnessed approximately 30 people fighting, a number of whom had weapons ranging from sticks and rocks to axes and other tools.

Attending members were able to stop the people fighting and soon located a 31-year-old male with a puncture wound to his neck.

St John Ambulance members attended and conveyed the victim to Royal Darwin Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Police wish to speak to a 19-year-old male described to be of aboriginal appearance, approximately 171 cm's tall, slim build, short dark hair and at the time of the incident was wearing dark pants and no shirt.

Police are following up on several lines of enquiry however are urging anyone that may have information in relation to the event to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

It is not believed that this incident is related to the disturbance that occurred in the same vicinity on 28-29 March but police will be working with other agencies to address the underlying causes to this particular incident.

A 17-year-old male youth has been interviewed in relation to the March incident and he is to be either summonsed or put through Youth Diversion in relation to the event.
