Deprivation of liberty – Alice Springs

Police

A man has been arrested following an incident in Alice Springs overnight in which he allegedly detained three people in a house.

Police received a report just after midnight of a disturbance at a house in Hakea Court.
When they arrived the alleged offender refused to allow them entry to the house and barricaded the door. Police ascertained he was armed with a hammer and a brick and three people were also inside. While negotiators tried to talk the man into giving himself up other police members helped the three people escape through a bedroom window. The victims - two women aged 23 and 22 and a man aged 21 - were unharmed.

The offender then ran out the back door of the house armed with a hammer and a brick. He refused to put his weapons down and charged at police. The man was tasered and taken into custody and he is expected to be interviewed later today.
