Police from the Major Crime Section in Darwin are investigating the death of a man in the Alice Springs Watch house overnight.
The 34-year-old man was arrested and taken to the Alice Springs Police Watch house just before 1am this morning following a report of an assault. When a cell check was conducted about an hour later police found he was not breathing. CPR was commenced and an ambulance called, however, the man could not be revived.
Detectives from the Major Crime Section were advised and flew to Alice Springs to investigate as per police protocol. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of the man's death. Investigations are continuing and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.
