Cyclist injured

Police

A 15-year-old female has been taken to Royal Darwin Hospital after she was knocked off her bicycle this afternoon.

At about 12.40 pm police received a report that a car had knocked a cyclist off her bicycle in the middle of the Berrimah Road and Stuart Highway Intersection. Police and St John Ambulance officers attended and traffic had to be directed around the scene for about an hour.

It appears that the female, who was not wearing a helmet, rode in front of a utility travelling outbound on the Stuart Highway and was knocked off her bicycle sustaining serious leg injuries and bruises and was conveyed by St John Ambulance to Royal Darwin Hospital.

"It is a timely reminder that all cyclists should wear a helmet, particularly children, and obey traffic light directions as the outcome could have been much more serious," said Darwin Watch Commander, Senior Sergeant Garry Smith.
