Crocodile incident - Kakadu

Police

A 57-year-old male tourist was today bitten by a crocodile as he swam in a billabong near Red Lily Billabong in Kakadu National Park.

It appears that the man ignored the park's crocodile warning signs.

It is believed that the male that was staying at the Bucket Billabong Camping Grounds, off the Arnhem Highway, went for a swim at approximately 10:30 am when he was bitten on the arm by a crocodile.

The incident was witnessed by people on the other side of the bank, who attended and took the male back to his camp site and provided medical treatment to the injury.

He later travelled to the Jabiru Health Clinic to receive further treatment and has since been released.

Kakadu park rangers visited the location and also visited the man at the Jabiru Clinic.

Police would again like to remind people to use caution when attempting to swim in any body of water in the Northern Territory and to pay particular attention to any signage that may indicate the presence of crocodiles.

Parks Australia are now investigating the incident.
