Daly River Police destroyed a large saltwater crocodile yesterday afternoon following a report that it was stalking dogs and children in the community.
Police received a report about 1.30 pm and attended a house in the community where they located a large saltwater crocodile - approximately 41/2 metres long - in the water about 20 metres from the back door of the house.
Parks and Wildlife Service requested that police destroy the animal because they could not access the area to set a trap due to localised flooding.
The public are encouraged to report saltwater crocodile sightings to Parks and Wildlife Service on 0419 822 859.
