Commander’s Tactical Team message

Police

Members of the Commander's Tactical Team (CTT) are urging members of the public to lock their homes following a number of unlawful entries that have occurred throughout Darwin and the surrounding suburbs, including Palmerston and the rural area over the last week.

CTT members are investigating numerous unlawful entries that occurred between 14 to 21 August, two of which occurred over night at unlocked properties in the Nightcliff area.

Senior Sergeant Andy Bedwell of the Commander's Tactical Team is pleading home owners to lock up.

"It is quite frustrating knowing that a third of the homes that were involved in these incidents were unlocked at the time.

"We work hard to arrest these offenders and to keep the public and their property safe.
Needless to say it's quite frustrating when we attend these jobs, only to find the homes were unsecured at the time.

"It's as simple as locking the door once you've returned home and then double checking all of them again, including windows, before going to bed.

"Also, putting valuable items including mobile phones, jewellery and wallets on kitchen tables or anywhere in clear sight of would-be offenders is asking for trouble, so be sure to always keep them in a secure, non visible place.

"It is times like these that the old adage 'Lock it or lose it' rings true" he said.

Police also urge anyone that may witness any suspicious activity, or believe they may have witnessed an abovementioned incident, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
