Cliff rescue - Esplanade

Police

A 24-year-old male is in Royal Darwin Hospital after an incident at the Esplanade early this morning.

It is alleged that the male and his 25-year-old sister were at the location at approximately 5:00 am and climbed over the stone wall monument when the victim slipped and fell approximately 15 meters down the cliff.

Police, Fire, Emergency Service and St John attended the scene. The victim was stabilised, carried to safety and was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital.

District Officer for the NT Fire and Rescue Service, Ian Lockley said this should be a warning to others.

"It was a team effort getting the victim to safety and should serve as a reminder to the public to always exercise caution around cliff areas" he said.
