Child welfare – Wagaman

Police

At about 7.30 pm last night police attended at a child care centre in Wagaman in relation to a report that an eight-month-old baby boy was locked in the centre. Further investigations revealed that a 31-year-old woman had thrown a rock through the window of the centre in order to retrieve her son who had allegedly been forgotten by staff.

It appears that the woman dropped off her son at the centre around 8.00 am yesterday morning and went to work, dropping her car off at a local repair centre. The woman could not pick up her child before the centre closed and arrangements were made with family members to pick her son up.

Due to a miscommunication this did not occur and when the woman arrived home she could not locate her son. The woman then walked to the centre and found it was shut but she managed to see her son asleep in a cot through a window.

The woman became anxious and threw a rock through the window to recover her son. St John Ambulance officers also attended to ensure the child was in good health and after being medically assessed was given the all clear.

Investigations into the incident are on-going.
