Caravan fire – Tennant Creek

A family had a lucky escape last night after their caravan caught fire.

Tennant Creek Police received a report of a caravan on fire at the Outback Caravan Park on Peko Road at 2am today.

It appears a fire started behind a gas-powered fridge in the caravan.

The family said they woke to a popping noise and could smell gas inside the caravan.

The family were exiting the van when they noticed flames coming from the back of the refrigerator.

The fire was extinguished with fire extinguishers and a water hose by the owner and other park residents.

Damaged was caused to the outside of the caravan.

The site was made safe by Fire Services and the family was assessed by St Johns Ambulance for smoke inhalation.

The husband was taken to Tennant Creek Hospital for smoke inhalation.
