Police patrols were dispatched to the hospital a short time before the incident following threatening phone calls made to NT News and to police. In both instances the male caller made threats against the hospital.
Just after 4.30pm a Toyota Camry was driven through the grounds and into the front doors of the building. The man was arrested at the scene. No-one was injured in the incident.
The man will be interviewed later today and charges are expected to be laid.
