Police at Santa Teresa received a report on Saturday that human remains had been found near the community.

Police from Santa Teresa received a report just before 10am that a body had been found about 200 metres along the Allambra Station track south of the community.

Police from Alice Springs travelled to Santa Teresa to investigate. At this stage it is undetermined whether or not the remains are those of 38-year-old Nicholas Hayes who was reported missing after he failed to return to the community on Thursday.

An extensive air and ground search was conducted but failed to find the man.

An autopsy will be conducted later this week to confirm the identity of the remains found at the weekend.
