Attempted armed robbery suspect - search moves interstate

Police

Queensland police have broadened their search for an attempted armed robbery suspect and are appealing for interstate assistance.

Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson of the Gold Coast said police were appealing for assistance from the public in helping to identify the gunman who attempted to rob a Gold Coast Bank in late April.

"A peaceful business day was shattered when a man armed with a shotgun entered the bank aggressively threatening staff and customers whilst demanding money.

"What is particularly concerning to police was the man's ready use of the firearm. He discharged a single shot, possibly meant to intimidate and terrorise, during his demand for cash", he said.

Around 9.30am on Thursday April 30 a man entered the Ashmore branch of the Commonwealth Bank armed with a firearm. He demanded money from an employee, who immediately activated the security screens. When staff refused to give in to the man's demands he fled from the bank and was last seen getting into a green coloured sedan.

The man is described as around 25-year-old, approximately 180cm tall, he has olive skin and short dark hair. He was wearing a dark coloured shirt and shorts.

Detective Superintendent Hutchinson said the man fled empty handed and no one was injured during the attempted robbery.

"We are appealing for anyone who may recognise the man depicted in the photographs above to contact police, as we believe he may be able to assist with our inquiries.

"We are hopeful that someone may know who this person and contact police before any further offences are committed", he said.

Anyone with information that could assist police with their investigations should call their local Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
