Asset forfeiture – Alice Springs - 42135872

Police

A woman has had $35,000 forfeited to the government under the property criminal forfeiture act.

Alice Springs Drug Intelligence Unit conducted a search warrant at the woman's residence in October last year.

The search uncovered $43,070 in a locked suitcase in a cupboard in the house. Also in the suitcase was a large quantity of drug paraphernalia.

Police seized the cash and a small quantity of cannabis and lodged an application under the criminal property forfeiture act.

As a result of the proceedings the woman will forfeit $35,000 to the Government.

Superintendent Lance Godwin said drug offenders can face large consequences under the Criminal Property Forfeiture act.

"The Criminal Property Forfeiture act means a person who has property or assets that are obtained as a result of drug related activities may be seized by police and may later be forfeited to the Northern Territory Government," said Superintendent Godwin

"Police continue to actively target drug offenders within the community and encourage members of the community to report any suspicious activity."
