Assault - Woolner

Police

Police are investigating an assault on a female jogger in the early hours of this morning at Woolner.

The 43-year-old Caucasian woman told police she was running on a track near Snell Street at around 3.30am this morning when she was approached from behind by a man wielding a rock. The woman struggled with the man as he tried to choke her and ripped her clothes. The man fled after she managed to pick up a piece of wire and stab him in the forehead and chest. She then continued running inbound on the outbound lane of the Stuart Highway until she flagged down a police car at Beaurepaires.

The woman was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment for cuts and bruises.

The offender is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, in his mid 20s and approximately 180cm tall with dark curly hair. He was wearing blue shorts and a blue sleeveless t-shirt.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward. Anyone with information should phone police on 131 444 or crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
