Darwin Investigation Unit Detectives are continuing their investigation into the assault and robbery of a 21-year-old man that occurred early yesterday morning in the city area.

At about 1.45 a 21-year-old man and his 18-year-old female friend were returning to their hotel on Cavenagh Street when they were approached by two males near the corner of Edmunds and Smith Streets.

The males asked for cigarettes and then allegedly punched the 21-year-old victim. Another two males joined in and struck the victim's head with a bottle before stealing his wallet and mobile phone. All four males then ran off through an adjacent car park next to Rush Clothing Store.

Police have CCTV vision of four males who were in the area at the time of the incident who they believe may be able to assist them with their investigation.
