Police have arrested two males after an assault incident that occurred early this morning in Darwin City.

It is alleged that a taxi driver and a 23-year-old male entered a taxi outside an eatery on Smith Street at approximately 5:25 am when they were approached by two other males.

The two males also entered the vehicle and reached from the back seat, removing a quantity of cash before dragging the 23-year-old victim from the car and assaulting him.

A passing City Safe patrol witnessed the event and subsequently arrested the two offenders aged 16 and 20.

They currently remain in police custody and are expected to be charged later today.
