Police are investigating an assault that occurred at a Darwin Service Station early this morning.

It is alleged that a male offender entered BP on Smith Street at approximately 1:30 am, kicked the fire extinguisher off the wall and then proceeded to leave the premises.

The female attendant attempted to stop the man, however was then struck to her side with the object.

He then fled the scene towards Daly Street, leaving the fire extinguisher behind.

The offender is described to be a Caucasian male, approximately 183 cm's tall, solid build with short blonde hair.

At the time of the offence he was wearing a white shirt with a swirl motif on the front, knee length black shorts and boat shoes.
