A 28-year-old male has been charged in relation to an assault that occurred on Friday 6 February in Berrimah.

It is alleged that several people were at a residence in Berrimah when an altercation occurred, resulting in a 28-year-old male stabbing a 25-year-old female several times.

Two female witnesses of the event assisted the victim and disarmed and restrained the offender until police arrived.

Police and St John Ambulance members attended the scene a short time later and conveyed the victim to Royal Darwin Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

The offender was later charged with:

Recklessly endangering life
Aggravated assault (offensive weapon, cause harm)
Use controlled weapon.

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court today.
